Red kale sprouts taste great and also look beautiful on the plate. They are ideal for preparing salads, spreads, or simply on bread with butter, curd cheese or eggs. You can add them to soups or use them to garnish boiled potatoes. If you do not want to eat them raw, simply fry them briefly in a little oil and serve them as a side dish with meat, rice or noodles.
Simple sprouting instructions
- Soaking: First rinse the seeds, then soak them for several hours (maximum 10) in boiled, lukewarm water. After soaking, rinse again.
- Sprouting: Spread the seeds in a sprouting tray, on a plate with cotton wool or in another suitable container.
- Rinsing: The sprouts need to be rinsed with clean water at least 2-3 times a day to prevent mould and ensure healthy growth.
- Conditions: Place the container in a bright place with a temperature of 18–22 °C, but avoid direct sunlight.
- Harvest: The first shoots suitable for consumption will appear in 3 to 7 days. You can harvest them when they are 5 to 10 cm tall.
Storage and consumption
Before consumption, always rinse the finished sprouts thoroughly and remove any remaining seed husks. In a sealed container in the refrigerator, they will stay fresh for about a week.
